Photography credits

Unsplash images are used under the Unsplash License, and Pexels images under the Pexels License. Neither requires credit; we credit the photographers anyway. Wikimedia Commons images are used under the Creative Commons licence shown for each one: the author, licence and source are credited, and every change (cropping, resizing, conversion to WebP) is listed. Creative Commons Attribution and Attribution-ShareAlike images keep that licence when adapted. Where a licence asks for credit next to the image, the credit also appears on the page itself.

Hotel photographs show the properties featured: Hotel Aguas Claras, Hotel Banana Azul and Le Caméléon.

74 photographs on the site were taken by Dear Costa Rica between 2024 and 2026 in Puerto Viejo, Playa Negra, Cocles, Playa Chiquita, Punta Uva, Manzanillo, Cahuita and Bocas del Toro, plus a few at roadside stops and markets along the way. They carry the credit “Photo: Dear Costa Rica” in the media library. All were colour-graded together so they match, cropped and resized, converted to WebP, and stripped of location metadata before publishing.

Where we have no photograph we can verify for a place, we leave the picture out or mark an illustration as one.
